The artist/musician/producer known as Premo D’Anger has been playing music since he received his first drum kit at the early age of one-year-old. Growing up, he moved around a lot, being the only child of a military parent.
Listening to artists like Ramsey Lewis, George Duke, Stanley Clarke, Victor Wooten, Miles Davis, and many others, Premo developed a strong appreciation for jazz music. While the first school he attended didn’t have a music curriculum, he was still able to imitate the musical styles of those artists he listened to and began to feed his hunger for musical greatness. His ability to play and remember what he heard without ANY form of training made him and many others around him fully aware that he was truly gifted, and what he had was special.
While he was a child, Premo’s mother was also an artist who traveled in a gospel quartet all over the country singing. This afforded him the opportunity to begin his own musical journey, which began at the age of 8, by also touring with a gospel group. Doing this, he was able to pick up and practice the drums, guitar, and even perfect his stage presence with the microphone.
Shortly thereafter, his family moved to Alaska and he was able to hone in on his skill as a music artist through performances with his high school band and show choir. He also played drums at his church at the time, but this didn't seem fulfilling enough for him. Gradually he began to become more interested in playing piano, so anytime he got the opportunity he would be plastered behind a piano or keyboard or even organ!
This time spent in Alaska would prove to be THE defining pivotal moment that would solidify his passion and true love for the artistry of music. While in Alaska, he also got to play alongside gospel great and workshop clinician Milton Biggham.
Premo was also the musical director for Justin Timberlake’s Tennman/ Interscope signed recording artist FREESOL. He has been able to tour and share the stage with a musical gumbo of artists like Erykah Badu, Snoop Dogg, The Foo Fighters, Elton John, Lady Antebellum, Diddy, TPain, Lil Wayne, Lupe Fiasco, Gnarls Barkley and of course, Justin Timberlake to name a few. He has also had the pleasure of working alongside great super producers such as Cool n Dre (Fat Joe, Game, Queen Latifah), Mike Elizondo (Dr Dre, Eminem, 50 cent), Dave Tozer (John Legend, The Roots, Musiq Soulchild), Jim Jonsin (Lil Wayne, T.I., B.O.B) and Printz Board (Black Eyed Peas). From each one of these experiences he has taken and applied them to create his own unique musical style and sound.
Currently Premo is the musical director for the BB King’ s Blues Club All Stars in conjunction with Holland America and when he isn’t on the road, he has made his home in Las Vegas, NV and works to develop artists through his imprint The Danger Zone.
